Itō Hiromi is shi no miko – a shaman, one of the most known poets and a performer from Japan. She writes in Japanese, but she lives in United States. As she reads her poems she moves with the rhythm of the words, her voice is music and sounds – rings, murmurs, vocalizations.

She writes about death, love, birth, motherhood, libido, sex, body also in the aspects of violence, abuse, physiology and decay, matriarchal family without paternal figure. It makes her a strong voice of Japanese feminist poetry.
 She wrote a poem about the MOON.

“Long life, love, fire prevention, safe childbirth”

Gekkei means “lunar rule” – a rule you have to follow. The moon rules the menstruation. It is the time when you must stay away from the house in order to protect the fire. When you menstruate you are dirty. She says:

“Wow! I’m dirty! That is something a real good feminist would hate, but I am a bad feminist and I love it – it gives me a lot of power. 
A power to write about it.”
